Grow: up / a pair

Part 1

It’s realizing that you have to use the masks.
Use the masks but
Don’t let them deceive you -when others wear them,
When you wear them.
Don’t lie to yourself, don’t let them lie
To you.

It’s funny,
You spent a life wearing a mask
To protect yourself.
Then you strove for honesty,
A trait that put you in danger.

You can’t be honest,
You can’t be naive.
Creatures die without protection,
Don’t throw yours away.

Was this the role you were meant to play?
To learn and forget and learn again?
You can’t even trust
The words you write,
Don’t trust that they’ll be safe;
That you’ll be safe.

Safe is an illusion,
And optimism the ultimate delusion.
Eyes wide open
Till your eyelids bleed
Till the sun burns your sight away
And you are still watching
You can see the colors of everything,
The blossom of the black.

Nothing
No one
Barren wasteland
Wilderness
Your solitude
Is your familiar comfort,
Your perfect cage.

Rewrite the codex of your soul
Erase the precepts of your youth
Drown out the memories
Burn away this bruised
Documented flesh
Flay away the skin of record
Away from the very bones.

Let us be born anew
Let us become something else
Someone else.
Someone less weak
Less soft
Less…is better.

Compassion, mercy, forgiveness,
Prattle of the privileged
It’s all well and good
Till it happens to you.

We were made for this,
It hums in our blood
Reverberates in our very soul
The sweet honey
The crisp clutch
The satisfactory crunch
Of ending the grudge.

With hands
Broken cartilage
And mindless violence.

Part 2

With hands broken
Cartilage
And mindless violence.

I am artist, analyst, author, poet, composer, musician to name a few aspects of myself. A bit of a jack of trades, I dabble into many fields that encourage the blossom of imagination and allow me to channel my creativity. I dream vividly and view the world through the lens of optimism and opportunity while acknowledging the ink and shadows.
